Eyeglasses can be outfitted with tinted lenses to reduce glare, improve contrast, enhance depth perception, or simply look cool. Tints are available for both plastic and glass lenses in virtually any hue. Lighter fashion tints are used primarily for cosmetic purposes.
Those who wear eyeglasses with lenses in fashion tints often look for colors that will best complement their eyes, hair, and/or skin tone. Thus, fashion tints are usually applied in varying shades of pink, brown, or gray. The tint can be consistent throughout the entire lens, or it can fade from dark to light, from top to bottom. These are known as “gradient’ lenses, which can be useful for drivers because they do not dim the dashboard.
No matter what your eye condition, there are now prescription lenses that meet your lifestyle and vision correction needs.
Eyeglass lenses that change as the light changes, from clear indoors to dark outdoors. Bifocal lenses that provide multiple fields of vision. Thin and light high-index lenses. And progressive lenses that eliminate the traditional lines of multi-focal lenses. Double-gradient lenses (dark on top and bottom and lighter in the middle) are best suited for sports where light reflects up off water or snow, such as sailing or skiing.
