Optic Topic by Steven A. Queenan at Regional Eye Optical – Week of March 18, 2018
Once you select eyeglass frames, it is important to take facial measurements to get the right fit. Eyeglasses should sit firmly (but comfortably) on the bridge of the nose with the temples resting on the ears so that the optical centers of the eyeglass lenses lie directly in front of the pupils. When multi focal lenses are worn, measurements are required to gauge the proper placement of the intermediate and near portions of the lenses within the frames.
An eye professional will sometimes refer to an old pair of glasses to see how the measurements compare. Most eyeglass frames have four numbers inscribed on the inside of the temple that tell the lens size, bridge size, temple length, and lens height. To prevent eyeglass slippage, minor adjustments can be made to the bridge, nose pads, temple arms, and earpieces.
